The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 — a heroic and tragic 63-day struggle to liberate World War 2 Warsaw from Nazi-German occupation. Undertaken by the Home Army (Armia Krajowa, AK), the Polish resistance movement, at the time Allied troops were breaking through the Normandy defenses and the Red Army was standing at the line of the Vistula River.
In order to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Warsaw Uprising, the MEUCE and Polish consulate in Miami are screening the Polish Film (subtitled in English) "The August Sky: 63 Days of Glory", followed by a presentation on "Warsaw '44: A Legacy of Sacrifice" by Dr. Chodakiewicz, holder of the Kosciuszko Chair at the Institute of World Politics
Synopsis of "The August Sky: 63 Days of Glory"
In the ruins of a pre-war building, construction workers found human remains and a diary from the time of Warsaw Uprising. Professor, who was hiding in the basement, had described the first few days the dramatic battle for Warsaw. On August 5, 1944, the young nurse Barbara had experienced her first love to the AK’s soldier-Staszek. Young people with enthusiasm erected barricades
